Fast, uniform, hygienic chilling for poultry processing

The Deepchill® difference

Poultry processors chill birds using ice. Deepchill® replaces that ice with a pumpable slurry of micro-crystals that cools 2–3 times faster than flake or crushed ice — delivered directly to the chilling stage through sealed piping, with no manual handling.

Faster, more uniform chilling improves temperature control across every bird, reduces contamination risk in the spin chiller, and produces a better frozen product downstream.

Fast, uniform and consistent cooling

Deepchill cools 2–3 times faster than conventional flake or crushed ice, providing uniform cooling without freezing the product, supporting processors in meeting temperature-control requirements for poultry.

Efficient performance

The faster cooling of Deepchill® helps boost spin chiller (screw chiller) capacity and performance, speeding up your operations, without adding additional equipment. It can also function as an efficient chicken chiller in high-volume environments.

superior-hygiene-img

Superior hygiene

Deepchill® is generated, stored and distributed in a closed environment, and never exposed to outside contaminants. The cooling capacity of Deepchill® reduces the need to recirculate red water in the spin chiller, lowering cross-contamination risk between birds. It also minimises common hygiene risks seen with conventional poultry chiller systems. Its closed-loop system supports hygienic poultry chilling, minimising handling and exposure risks.

How Deepchill® fits into your poultry line

Deepchill® replaces the flake ice used in conventional poultry chilling. It is produced by a Deepchill® system installed at your facility and delivered as a pumpable slurry through sealed piping to the chilling stage, no shovels, forklifts or manual ice handling required.

As it works with your existing spin chiller rather than replacing it, most processors can improve chilling performance without adding chilling vessels to the line.

Deepchill® is available in different ice fractions to suit the application. For poultry chilling, the fastest-cooling liquid slurry is typically used.

Higher quality frozen product through Deepchilling

Deep-chilled birds freeze faster. Not only does this increase the efficiency and throughput of freezers, it improves the quality of the chicken. As a chicken chiller solution, Deepchill® helps processors maintain high product quality from chilling to freezing.

By integrating Deepchill® into your chicken processing workflow, the integrity and quality of meat are preserved throughout.

During freezing, chickens pre-cooled with Deepchill® will form small, round crystals instead of the sharp long (dendrite) crystals that are formed during slow freezing. These dendrite crystals puncture the cells during defrosting, resulting in a lower quality product.
