Food Processing
The Deepchill® difference
Deepchill® slurry ice is a pumpable mix of millions of fine ice crystals suspended in liquid. The tiny crystals create a very large cooling surface area, so heat transfers faster and more evenly than with cold water or air alone. Because it flows through pipes, one system can chill product at several points across your line, giving you tighter temperature control and more consistent results than conventional food processing chillers.

Fast and uniform cooling
Slurry ice absorbs a large amount of heat as its crystals melt, a property called latent energy. This lets Deepchill® pull heat out of the product quickly and evenly, cooling high volumes in less time than chilled water. Faster, more uniform cooling means the whole batch reaches target temperature together, with fewer warm spots and less variation between units.

Food-safe
Deepchill® slurry ice is made from water and can be used in direct contact with food, so you can immerse or spray product without an intermediate coolant. Contact surfaces are stainless steel, the standard material for food processing environments because it resists corrosion and is easy to clean. This makes Deepchill® well suited to product-contact and wash-down applications.

Superior hygiene
Deepchill® runs as a closed, automated system, so the cooling medium stays enclosed and product is less exposed to outside contaminants than in open ice or open-bath methods. Deepchill® systems are USDA approved and support HACCP food safety programs, and stainless steel contact surfaces keep the system sanitary and easy to clean between production runs.

Streamlined operation
Since slurry ice is pumpable, a single Deepchill® unit can store cooling capacity and distribute it automatically to several points of use across your line. That means fewer separate chillers to run and maintain, and cooling delivered on demand where each process needs it. As throughput grows, you can add points of use without rebuilding the core system.
Ideal for a variety of Food Applications
Deepchill® systems are highly adaptable and can be used across a wide range of food processing chiller applications—from ready-to-eat meals to dairy, breweries, and beyond. Whether you operate in batch or continuous modes, our technology fits right in.
What can Deepchill® cool?
Deepchill® is used to cool a range of food-processing streams, including finished and packaged products, process water and product-contact fluids, and ingredients or mixing streams that need to reach a target temperature quickly. It works in both batch and continuous operations, using direct contact where the product can touch the slurry ice and indirect cooling through a heat exchanger where it cannot.
Application Flexibility
Deepchill® can be integrated into your existing process in several ways:
- Immersion or spray chilling for direct product contact
- Indirect cooling via plate and frame heat exchangers
- Automated chilling in immersion tanks (with or without conveyors), spin chillers, and hydrocoolers
- Retrofitting into existing chillers to double or triple output capacity without replacing your current system
Sizing your system
The right system size depends on your application, not a fixed spec. The main factors are how much product you cool per hour, its starting and target temperatures, how quickly it must be cooled, and whether you run in batches or continuously. The number of cooling points and whether you use direct or indirect cooling also shape the configuration.
Share these details and Deepchill® can size a system to match.
Immersion cooling for soup cups
An agitated Deepchill® immersion bath was used in a continuous flow operation to cool down cooked soup cups.
Results:
- Cooling time cut by 75%: from 165 minutes to 40 minutes
- Product: 0.68 kg soup cups, cooled from 88°C to 2°C
- Method: agitated Deepchill® immersion bath in a continuous-flow line

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Deepchill® slurry ice can be used in direct contact for immersion or spray chilling. Where product cannot be wetted, it cools indirectly through a plate-and-frame heat exchanger, so the same system covers both contact and non-contact applications.
Yes. Deepchill® can retrofit into existing cooling equipment and add capacity without replacing your current setup, or run as a standalone system distributing slurry ice to several points across your line.
Both. The system stores cooling capacity and delivers it on demand, so it fits batch operations, continuous-flow lines, or a mix of the two as your throughput changes.
